This may appear to be a strange segway …from living in the moment, to dealing with the aging brain. But, in truth, they are closely connected, and both are my passion. Not only does living Moment by Moment, extend (and improve) life at a cellular level, it is enormously healthy for the brain, because it takes such focused concentration… paying ATTENTION! Each moment is so fleeting, yet so full of so many wonders, that without intent and attention, we miss them.
How often do you spend time just watching the quick, productive, cooperative interactions of birds of multi-species. Or how about cloud watching …not for hours, how about for even a couple of minutes each day. I’m not talking day-dreaming, I’m talking about the action of watching …focusing on, paying attention to. What ever the subject you choose to observe, noticing as many small details as you can see, is MARVELOUS for the brain. This is a small gift you can offer to an elder you know (or love) who is losing their edge. An easy place to start is by the activity of paying attention, with intention. Think about it.
Much more about this subject in the coming blogs. How this activity actually produces very special brain waves that improve cognitive function.
